A letter from Father Gerard...

I have had a desire to run in the Boston Marathon for some time now and wondered how it could be possible.  Everything came together when I noticed a post on facebook about a Community Church near Boston.  The church was given two bibs for runners, from the Boston Marathon Association, in order to raise funds for their church youth activities.  They had always used their church parking lot to raise money during the marathon, as their church is at the beginning of the Marathon in Hopkinton.  After the Boston marathon bombing they were no longer allowed to use the parking lot for their fundraiser.  Hence, in an act of good will, the Marathon Committee offered them two charity bibs.  After reading about the story, I contacted the church and asked if I could be one of their runners.  After a process, I received word from the pastor that I was selected.  It is a worthwhile cause, as the monies raised will go to the youth activities of the church.  I am in the midst of the marathon training.  I was not looking forward to the winter running and at Christmas I wondered if I would be able to do the training and fundraising.  I was also in the midst of moving to another parish when I received a beautiful Christmas Card from some of the youth at the Community Church thanking me for running and helping them get to their summer camps!  Their card touched me deeply and inspired me to move forward and get the job done!  I will do my very best to be at the starting line to begin the 42.2 Kms for the youth of Community Church! Can you help me?  My goal for the church is $2500.  I would really appreciate any financial help you can offer, and if you can’t, then please pray for me!  I can do it 'one step at a time.'  God Bless!
